Federal Reserve Sees Improvement In Economy

By Tina Brown on January 13, 2010

Digital News Report – In an analysis of the economy, the Federal Reserve reports that we are in a broadening recovery in 10 of its 12 districts. While spending was up in the fourth quarter last year it was still lagging behind 2007.

The economy is making gradual gains, according to the Beige Book business survey (formerly called Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions). Some analysts believe the risk of another dip is declining.

The rate of increase in unemployment is slowing. Employers cut 85,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate remains at 10 percent, according to the U.S. Labor Department.
