Digital News Report – The tablet-wars are heating up as Barnes & Noble upgrades their Nook Color. The company says that they will be offering “e-mail and many other requested features” with their e-reader. There are rumors that the other features will include flash.
The new nooks are more than just e-readers. When B&N introduced their nook, it only had a 3.5″ touchscreen. Today the Color Nooks have a 1024×600 resolution multi touch touchscreen LCD 7-inch display, and functions better than a plain e-reader.
The Color Nooks do not have e-ink, but they do include Wi-Fi and a built-in media player that supports audio and video. Users can also install other approved apps.
The Color Nook is becoming more of a tablet with similar functions to the Apple iPad and iPad 2. Neither of those products support flash yet. Meanwhile Android tablets are beginning to support similar features, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab with a 10.1 inch display.
E-Bay currently had a Color Nook with bids of $203.15. This product was used but could be registered with Barnes and Noble.
The new updated Nook was selling for $299 on the Home Shopping Network, with $11.95 shipping. HSN will have sneak-peaks throughout the day.
