Brewers Stun Padres With Dramatic NLDS Walk-Off

Jackson Chourio
By Digital News Editorial Team on October 5, 2026

Jackson Chourio’s two-run single in the ninth gave Milwaukee a 4-3 victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the National League Division Series.

Jackson Chourio delivered a two-run single in the ninth inning to help the Milwaukee Brewers defeat the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday. The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five National League Division Series after winning two consecutive games. Chourio’s hit came after a leadoff groundout in the ninth and followed walks to Christian Yelich as well as Sal Frelick and Gary Sánchez.

He stepped into the batter’s box one day after hitting a tying two-run homer in the third inning according to The Orange County Register. Mason Miller—who entered the game trying for his first six-out save since 2024—threw a season-high 40 pitches according to a report from the Chicago Tribune. Miller issued his first career postseason walks to Yelich and Frelick before Chourio stepped up.

The Brewers rallied from 2-0 deficits on both days using their bullpen to secure the wins. William Contreras hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning against Adrian Morejon on Saturday. Chourio said his drive to deliver in clutch moments intensified after a strikeout in his rookie year.

He told himself he would never make the last out after that loss to the Seattle Mariners. The Padres entered the postseason after winning 20 of their last 23 games. San Diego now heads home for Game 3 of the series with a chance to avoid elimination.

Chourio became the second-youngest player with a postseason walk-off hit in MLB history. Edgar Renteria was younger when he hit two walk-off hits during the Florida Marlins’ 1997 World Series run. Chourio has a franchise-record five home runs and 15 RBIs in 14 career postseason games.

Christian Yelich praised Chourio for thriving in high-pressure moments. Yelich said Chourio knows his talents and what he can do on the field. Chourio also made a key defensive play in the opener when a potential go-ahead homer bounced off a cable.

The ball landed in the left fielder’s glove and kept a potential two-run homer off the scoreboard. Sal Frelick had an RBI single in the fifth after Christian Yelich doubled. Milwaukee closed to 3-2 in the seventh when Garrett Mitchell scored from third.

Jake Cronenworth bobbled a grounder and threw past first leading to the error. Ty France hit a potential go-ahead homer that struck a cable on the roof. The ball landed in the glove of the left fielder at the warning track.

Padres manager Craig Stammen said the Brewers are a great team and they battle hard in Milwaukee. Mason Miller said he didn’t do his job and the team is now in a hole. Miller threw a fastball that Chourio fouled off.

Chourio also struck a fastball up the middle that passed second baseman Jake Cronenworth. Cronenworth said he thought he got a good jump on the ball. The ball bounced into center field as Yelich ran across the plate.

Sal Frelick slid in headfirst and beat the throw from center fielder Jackson Merrill. Ty France said the team could have been going home up 2-0 but now they must win. The Brewers’ victory was their second in a row after trailing early.

They have now taken two straight games from the Padres in the division series. Jackson Chourio’s performance was one of the most memorable moments in his career so far.

He said the moment ranks among his top three career highlights.

Chourio’s walk-off hit was his second major hit in the series. He had previously hit a two-run homer in the third inning to tie the game.

Milwaukee will take its 2-0 series lead to San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday.
