Bryan Seaver, the nephew of country music legend Dolly Parton, was dismissed from his role managing security for her properties shortly after announcing her death. Seaver had served as Parton’s head of security for more than twenty years after taking over a role previously held by his father Larry Seaver.
He was personally asked by Parton to deliver the news of her passing when the time came, according to a video he posted on social media in August. In that video, Seaver shared memories of traveling with his aunt as a child and described announcing her death as an honor mixed with pride and sadness.
The termination notice was issued on September 16 and stated that Seaver and his security companies were dismissed from all of Parton’s properties. The letter ordered Seaver and his personnel to leave the properties immediately and said they could no longer enter or monitor them.
Replacement guards were sent to several locations including Parton’s main Nashville residence, a downtown home, a museum and a warehouse. The termination letter referred to changes in ownership of Parton’s properties but did not give a detailed explanation for ending Seaver’s security work.
Seaver later suggested that the decision might have been influenced by financial motives rather than any issue with his performance. He criticized actions involving Parton’s longtime manager Danny Nozell and Pinnacle Bank and said he believed some decisions involving the estate were being made in bad faith. Those claims are Seaver’s allegations and have not been established as fact.
Parton died on August 25 at age 80. Her official website said she died peacefully in Nashville. Reuters reported that she died following a brief battle with cancer.
Parton had asked Seaver years earlier to make the public announcement when she died. He appeared in the video representing the Parton and Owens families.
Parton was buried in a private ceremony on August 28 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville. She was laid to rest beside her husband Carl Dean, who died in March 2025.
Seaver had also discussed one of Parton’s wishes concerning her burial. He said she wanted to be comfortable and had made lighthearted comments about what she wanted to wear. TMZ reported that she was to be buried in high heels and a comfortable cotton dress.
Seaver is the CEO of Squadron Augmented Protection Services. Public business records identify him as the company’s chief executive.
His connection to Parton extended beyond his professional security work. Bryan Seaver is the son of Cassie Parton and Larry Seaver. Cassie is one of Dolly Parton’s sisters. Larry previously handled security for Dolly before Bryan took over the job.
The termination did not erase all of Seaver’s connections to Parton’s estate. According to reporting on the letter, his personal interest in the DP Dean Trust remained unaffected by the end of his security role. The trust oversees property and business interests connected with Parton.
Seaver said he was surprised by the decision and described the actions following Parton’s death as unexpected and unexplained. His security team said it remained committed to protecting Parton’s family and honoring her wishes.
The decision to fire Seaver came only about three weeks after his announcement of Parton’s death. That timing has drawn attention because of his long service to Parton and his role in publicly announcing her death.
However, no public evidence has established that Seaver was fired because he announced Parton’s death. The termination notice did not state that his video or his handling of the announcement was the reason for the decision.
The exact reasons for the security change therefore remain unclear. Seaver has publicly raised concerns about how the estate is being handled, while reports indicate that new guards have already taken over security duties at the properties.
Parton’s official death announcement described her as a singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress and author whose career lasted seven decades. Her family asked fans who wanted to honor her to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Seaver’s firing marks a major change in the management of Parton’s properties after more than two decades in which he oversaw her security. For now, the publicly available termination letter confirms that his security duties ended but does not explain why the estate chose to make the change.
