England’s men’s cricket team claimed a strong victory over Pakistan in the second Test at Lord’s, winning by 194 runs and taking a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The match was played on Sunday, August 30, and England posted a total of 290 and 208 in their innings. Jamie Smith scored 61 and Jordan Cox made 55 in the first innings, while Dan Lawrence contributed 54 in the second. Pakistan were bowled out for just 110 in their first innings and managed only 194 in their chase. Saud Shakeel top-scored with 97, but lacked support from the rest of the batting lineup. England’s pace attack delivered a strong performance, with Ollie Robinson taking 8 wickets in the match and Jofra Archer taking 5 wickets in the match.

The result leaves Pakistan trailing 0-2 in the series, after also losing the first Test at Leeds, according to Yardbarker. Pakistan’s batting performance was weak throughout the match and the entire series, failing to cross 200 runs in any innings during the entire series. Babar Azam, Pakistan’s leading batter, scored only 8 runs in the first innings and 6 in the second. The loss at Lord’s was another blow to Pakistan’s Test cricket programme, showing deep-rooted problems in their performance.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board for systemic failures rather than blaming individual players. Latif said that the current board is the worst in the last 70 years and pointed to poor leadership, selection, and coaching decisions. He emphasized that the team’s struggles were not just about player performance but also due to institutional issues within the organization.

The England team’s win was also significant for captain Joe Root personally, who has had a difficult summer with the bat, according to a report from indiatoday.in. Root admitted to being dismissed lbw seven times during the series, including twice in the Lord’s Test. He said that umpire decisions played a role and noted that the ball behavior this year has been different, with more movement and impact on wickets.

The series win was a welcome result for England and helped restore confidence after a challenging summer. England’s performance in the series has placed them sixth in the WTC 2025-27 points table with 62 points, Yardbarker reported. South Africa and Australia are the next teams to face each other in a three-match Test series starting the coming October. India will return to host Australia for a five-match Test series, the Border Gavaskar Trophy in January 2027.
