England wrapped up a commanding victory over Pakistan in their Test series at Lord’s, with a dominant bowling performance sealing the win. The match concluded on August 30, 2026, after Pakistan were bowled out for just 194 chasing a target of 389.

Ollie Robinson emerged as the standout performer, taking eight wickets in the match, including 4/11 in Pakistan’s first innings and 4/24 in the second, according to crictracker.com. Robinson’s efforts were supported by Josh Tongue, who claimed 3/46 in the final innings as Pakistan’s resistance crumbled.

England’s first innings saw them score 290 all out, with Jamie Smith making 61 and Jordan Cox contributing 55 runs. Pakistan’s first innings was short-lived, as they were dismissed for just 110 runs on day two. England therefore took a commanding first-innings lead of 180 runs, setting Pakistan a target that proved insurmountable.

Jofra Archer also played a key role in the first innings, taking 3/26 to help restrict Pakistan’s scoring. England’s second innings ended with them scoring 208 all out, setting Pakistan their 389-run target.

Dan Lawrence steadied England’s second innings during a rain-affected third day, reaching an unbeaten 50 before eventually being dismissed for 54 on day four. With this win, England have now secured the series with one match still to be played, having won both completed Tests convincingly.

Pakistan’s batting was exposed throughout the match, and their combined first-innings total of 110 left them with a deficit too large to recover from. Although Saud Shakeel produced a superb 97 in the second innings, the rest of Pakistan’s batting order failed to build on his performance.

The third Test is still to be played, though the series outcome has already been decided. England will look to complete a 3-0 sweep, while Pakistan aim to avoid a whitewash and give their batters one final chance to find form before the tour ends.

Ben Duckett struggled in the match, scoring just 18 runs across both innings, a modest improvement over his performance at Headingley, according to a report from the BBC. Emilio Gay was unlucky to fall victim to the poor pitch conditions, reaching 31 in the second innings before being dismissed.

Jordan Cox continued to show his strength with a composed 55 in the first innings, remaining calm as wickets fell around him. Captain Joe Root scored just four and 24 runs respectively in both innings, falling lbw in each of them.

Seven of his nine Test dismissals this summer have been by lbw, a trend Root acknowledged but refused to treat as a crisis. Jamie Smith delivered his best performance in over a year with a 61-run innings in difficult conditions.

Gus Atkinson struggled to take wickets despite bowling quickly, managing only one scalp in the series. Jofra Archer was brilliant in the first innings, taking three wickets despite not finishing with a higher tally.

Josh Tongue played a key role in Pakistan’s first innings by taking the crucial wickets of Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique, before adding three more wickets in the second innings. Abdullah Shafique scored five runs in the first innings before being dismissed for a duck in the second.

Imam-ul-Haq did not bat or bowl and dropped a catch during the match. Saud Shakeel finally showed some fight in the second innings, making an impressive 97 before falling just three runs short of a century.

Ali Usman’s performance was hard to judge due to conditions not favoring spin bowling. Muhammad Abbas took nine wickets in the match, including a standout 5-57 in the second innings.

Mohammad Ali also improved from his earlier performance at Headingley, bowling with more control and getting the ball to move both ways. Joe Root, England’s all-time leading Test run-scorer, has passed 50 only twice this summer, the BBC reported.

Root pointed to the challenges posed by the moving ball in UK conditions this summer and reflected on his long career. He said that while it is frustrating to see a pattern of lbw dismissals, he has always found ways to adapt and improve.

Root mentioned that the ball’s condition this summer has been different, with concerns about its shape and behavior. He emphasized that he’s confident in overcoming these challenges and noted that lbw issues are not new to his career.

Root also addressed comments made by former player David Warner about his lbw struggles, saying those comments were incorrect. He added that in cricket, everything must be earned through hard work and effort.

Root’s comments were made during an interview with the BBC’s Today program following the Test match.
