Kroger has resolved a long-running class action lawsuit by agreeing to pay $17 million to affected customers. The dispute centered on how the company priced certain prescription medications between December 2018 and August 2026. Court documents said that Kroger failed to include lower prices from its Kroger Savings Club when calculating what insured customers owed for their medications. This oversight caused some people to pay more than they should have for their prescriptions.
Kroger has denied any wrongdoing, according to Yahoo Finance. Kroger explained that its discount prices are only available to members who pay a yearly fee for the Kroger Savings Club.
The settlement covers anyone who purchased one or more prescriptions with insurance during the time period from December 9, 2018, to August 23, 2026. The exact amount each person might receive has not yet been determined.
Class members who received notices from the Settlement Administrator can submit a claim using the number provided on that notice. Those who have not received such notices can still file a claim using the same online form.
The deadline to submit a claim is December 21, 2026. A final hearing for the settlement will be held on January 11, 2027.
The company’s actions have drawn attention to how pharmacy pricing is handled by large retailers. This case highlights the importance of transparency in prescription drug costs for consumers with insurance coverage.
