Scottie Scheffler delivered one of the most impressive rounds of his career during the opening playoff event of the PGA Tour season. He carded a 61 in Round 2 of the FedEx St. Jude Championship held in Memphis on August 14. Scheffler started his round with five straight birdies and continued to build momentum before settling for a par on the sixth hole.
The performance included 11 birdies in total, marking one of the best rounds of his professional career, according to USA Today. It was not his lowest score ever, as he has previously shot a 59 and a 60 in earlier events. However, the 61 on August 14 was among his best performances in a PGA Tour event.
The round placed Scheffler at the top of the leaderboard with a three-shot lead heading into the weekend, according to a report from kgw.com. He was able to maintain his position as one of the leading players in golf, further proving his consistency and skill.
Scheffler’s performance in Memphis was especially notable given that it came during a playoff event. This was not his first time shooting a 61, as he had also done so in the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson event.
His ability to post such low scores under pressure has made him one of the most reliable players on tour. The FedEx St. Jude Championship is a PGA Tour event and draws top-tier talent from around the world.
Scheffler’s 61 was not just a personal milestone but also a strong statement about his form heading into the rest of the season. He has now posted multiple rounds in the 60s, showing that he is in peak condition for the upcoming tournaments.
The tournament’s location in Memphis added to the significance of his performance. With a three-shot lead and strong momentum, Scheffler is expected to be a major contender for the rest of the event.
His round in Memphis was one of several standout performances that have solidified his reputation as a top performer on the PGA Tour. The event continues to draw attention from fans and analysts alike due to Scheffler’s consistent excellence.
As the weekend approaches, all eyes will be on how Scheffler maintains his lead in this high-stakes tournament. His performance in Memphis shows that he is not only capable of winning but also of dominating under pressure.
