India’s performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has been impressive, especially in athletics and related disciplines. The country’s athletes have already secured a significant number of medals, with five golds, twelve silvers, and six bronzes so far. On Saturday, India had the chance to add even more to its medal count across multiple events including boxing, athletics, para athletics, and judo. The boxing team was particularly strong, with all ten Indian boxers advancing to finals. Several top names were in action, including Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and others like Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, and Sachin Siwach.

In the javelin throw event, Neeraj Chopra led India’s challenge after all three Indian athletes advanced to the final. Chopra was joined by Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh in the men’s javelin final, a rare feat for India. The qualification round was tough due to challenging weather conditions with gusty winds and cold temperatures. Despite the difficult environment, India’s javelin throwers made it to the final round with strong performances. The competition was expected to be a close one between Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, both strong contenders for gold. Neeraj Chopra had previously won the Commonwealth Games title in 2018 and was aiming to reclaim it. The final results saw Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage take home the gold medal in javelin. Neeraj Chopra was disappointed with his performance but still managed to secure a silver medal. Yash Vir Singh claimed the bronze medal for India, finishing third overall in the competition.

India’s success was not limited to javelin, as several other events also offered medal opportunities. Gulveer Singh competed in the men’s 5,000m final, while Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran were in the triple jump final. India also had entries in relay events, race walk, and para athletics, showing a broad range of competitive strength. The country’s boxing team continued to perform strongly with several athletes in medal contention. Saturday was expected to be the most productive day for India so far at the Games, with medals likely in multiple disciplines.

The athletics events in Glasgow were drawing attention from fans and competitors alike. India’s overall performance at the Commonwealth Games has been a highlight for national sports. The country’s athletes were showing resilience and skill in various events, especially in the face of challenging conditions. The javelin final was a showcase of international talent, with athletes from different countries competing for top honors. India’s record in javelin at the Commonwealth Games includes a bronze from 2010 and a gold from Neeraj Chopra in 2018.

The success of Indian athletes in Glasgow has added to the excitement and pride surrounding the Games. With several medal opportunities still available, India’s athletes are expected to continue their strong showing in the coming days. The event has been a testament to India’s growing presence and competitiveness on the global sports stage. Athletes from around the world are also making their mark, with many events drawing large crowds and high-level competition. The Commonwealth Games continue to be a platform for showcasing athletic excellence across multiple disciplines.

As the competition progresses, India’s athletes remain focused on achieving more success in upcoming events.
