White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced her resignation from the role, ending her tenure as one of President Donald Trump’s most visible and vocal aides. The 28-year-old will step down at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children and family.
President Trump confirmed the departure on Wednesday, saying Leavitt would leave her post but remain a key figure in his political circle, according to The Sun. The change comes just weeks after Leavitt returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second child.
Trump praised Leavitt for her work and said she would now serve as one of his top outside advisors. He added that Leavitt’s new role would involve being an influential voice within the Republican Party as the party prepares for the November midterm elections.
Trump did not name a replacement for Leavitt in his announcement. The president lauded Leavitt’s performance, saying she had done a phenomenal job defending justice, liberty, and freedom since 2018.
He also called her one of the best White House Press Secretaries in history.
Leavitt shared a statement expressing gratitude for her time in the White House and the opportunities she received under President Trump. She thanked the president for giving her access to the Oval Office, travel around the world, and meetings with foreign leaders.
Leavitt said her greatest honor had been speaking on behalf of the president from the podium.
She described her work in the role as both a privilege and a challenge, especially balancing motherhood with demanding responsibilities.
Leavitt explained that she felt unable to be the best mother while also fulfilling the demands of her position. She said the decision was bittersweet but necessary for her family.
Leavitt also stated that she will continue to advocate for the Republican Party and MAGA values. She emphasized her belief that the Democratic Party poses a threat to American values and that it is important for supporters to fight back.
Leavitt expressed her commitment to continuing the fight, even though her role in the White House has ended.
She thanked President Trump, the First Lady, and the entire Trump family for their kindness and support over the years.
Leavitt’s departure follows her return to work just weeks after giving birth to her second child in May, according to a report from AOL. Her resignation came just 44 days after she resumed her duties.
She has been a prominent figure in the Trump administration, known for her aggressive and loyal defense of the president, Euronews reported.
Leavitt previously worked as a press aide during Trump’s first term and later served as communications director for Representative Elise Stefanik.
She also ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022, winning a Republican primary before losing the general election.
Leavitt has been described as one of the most combative and visible figures in the White House press office.
Her departure comes at a time when Trump faces steadily sinking poll numbers and the Republican Party risks defeat in the upcoming midterm elections.
She has been a long-time supporter of Trump’s campaign and political movement, including involvement with a super PAC before joining his 2024 campaign.
Leavitt is the youngest person to ever hold the position of White House Press Secretary.
She has two children, including a two-year-old son and a newborn daughter.
