Digital News Report – Earth Hour will be observed this Saturday at 8:30 local time around the world. Business and residences are asked to turn out their non-essential lights for one hour (see video below).

The yearly event is held to remind people of climate change. Many businesses and organizations are promoting and participating in the event. 812 landmarks around the world will be turning off their lights for one hour beginning at 8:30.

Here is a list of icons and landmarks that will be turning off their lights:

Sky Tower, Auckland
London Eye, London
Piccadilly Circus, London
Brandenburg Gate, Berlin
Empire State Building, New York
Burj Al Arab, Dubai
Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro

Trevi Fountain, Italy
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Forbidden City, Beijing
Red Fort, Delhi
Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pisa
Big Ben, London
Sydney Opera House, Sydney
