Santa Clara Officials consider ban of Toys in Kids Meals

April 27th, 2010

Digital News Report -The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is considering implementing a ban on fast-food restaurants to stop having toys being given out with their kids meals. The reasoning the supporter have for the ban is that fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s get the kids into eating their food because of the lure of a toy. If they take away the toy, maybe the kids won’t be so fat reasons those in favor of the ban, and possibly the chains will offer healthier menu items.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is set to make the decision on the proposed ban this Tuesday.

The opponents are individuals that want to have their freedom to chose and are calling it a ‘nanny state.’ Another opponent is The California Restaurant Assn. who has taken out a full-page advertisement opposing the ban.

If the proposed ban goes through, it would only effect around one dozen fast-food restaurants that would be in the area.
