Teen Birth Rate Declined

Digital News Report - The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a report on teen birth rate today that noticed a 2 percent drop from 2007 to 2008 year. In 2006 and 2007 the teen birth rate was on an increase.

There was 41.5 births for every 1,000 teenagers ranging in age from 15 – 19 years old.  This was 42.5 per 1,000 in 2007, and 41.9 per 1,000 in 2006.

Hispanic teenagers was at the lowest rate ever reported with 77.4 births per 1,000.  This was the lowest in the last two decades for which they have numbers for.

Premature babies prior to 37 weeks of pregnancy was on a decline. The perterm birth rate declined from 12.7 in 2007 to 12.3 in 2008.  There was a 20 percent increase between 1990 and 2006 for preterm deliveries.
