Hamas Calls For Calm After Israeli Air Strikes

April 2nd, 2010

Digital News Report – Not long after Israel carried out air strikes in Gaza earlier this week leaders of Hamas are working to stop rocket attacks. Israel began their attack after Hamas fired rockets into Israeli territory.

Ayman Taha, spokesperson for the Hamas government said they were trying to maintain the calm. The BBC reports that the Israeli air force struck weapons factories.

Even the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority has tried to stop the escalation. “We are contacting the other Palestinian factions in order to reach an internal consensus as to the measures we may take in order to protect our people and strengthen our unity,” Ismail Haniya said.
