Lawsuit To Be Filed Against Health Care Bill – 14 States Join Bandwagon

Digital News Report

Digital News Report – Although President Obama has signed the health care bill that was passed over the weekend by the House of Representatives, more than a dozen states have threatened to block the legislation. California Attorney General Jerry Brown has not decided to join the other states despite the public statements by some Republican politicians to fight the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Opponents say the law is unconstitutional because it forces all Americans to buy something. Proponents say that Americans are forced to pay taxes already and the taxpayer is forced to pay for those who decide to not buy insurance.

After years of advocating a strong central government, Republicans are coming back around in their support of states-rights. “The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying health care coverage,” the lawsuit states.

The fight against the health care bill may be just beginning.

If you dont want to buy that product then you should not be forced to. Why should I buy health insurance if i dont want to. The government controls everything.

Thankfully these states are standing up for their citizens while the congress and administration totally ignore the American electorate. I’d be even happier knowing that this legislation could not take effect while it is being contested in the courts. I’d be euphoric to see states enact laws protecting “at-risk” populations, such as those with pre-existing conditions. Put the feds HC power play legislation on the scrap heap and go forward with real health care; this is what citizens want.

The bureaucracy this will create is abhorring.

I think you mean “abhorrent,” Ronald. But I wonder if the same was said about Medicare and Social Security, both government-run programs and installed many decades ago. I don’t hear anyone complaining once they are taking advantage of these programs.

Also, do all of you have car insurance? If you have a car, you have to have car insurance. It is required. Even if you don’t have a car, you need insurance. What if you get hit by one? Don’t you want health insurance (especially if you get hit by someone with no car insurance!)???? Why don’t people complain about this?

I don’t see anything wrong with people having to have health insurance. Just as I would not ride a motorcycle without a helmet, I would not forgo health insurance. You don’t want it? Well, you don’t want to get sick, either. Eventually, and maybe you don’t want to think about this if you are healthy now, you will NEED it. Thank G-d this was passed.

And before anyone gets on to me about being a “socialist,” I suppose no one is on Social Security, Medicare or sends his/her kids to state-run K-12 schools? These are socialist programs we all benefit from. Illegal immigrants getting health care? Shoot, I get cheap groceries via their low-paid, back-breaking labor. I am happy to support people who WORK. And a great number of those people WORK. Thank G-d for them every time you sit down to a meal.

Hanka, not every american is forced to have auto insurance. It is only required if you own or drive an automobile. This is a choice, not a requirement and it is not required by the federal government. Not every state requires all automobile drivers to have insurance. The analogy just doesn’t stand up.
