Digital News Report – Wouldn’t it be great to fill your car at home and help clean the environment at the same time? That reality is a step closer with the development of small home hydrogen refueling and storage stations that can fit next to your water heater.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies is unveiling their small home units at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. Just plug it in the wall and produce your own hydrogen.

One of the company’s founders, Taras Wankewycz, believes this reality is hear. “We no longer need to rely on nationwide networks of hydrogen fueling stations to enable large-scale fuel cell commercialization,” Wankewycz said. “Horizon is initiating a transition that places consumers in the driving seat. Thanks to our innovation each household can gradually become a major part of tomorrow’s hydrogen fuel supply infrastructure.”

The new station is called “Hydrofill”. They believe this to be the first private refueling station for fuel cell vehicles. Fuel cell technology will greatly improve the flexibility of cars allowing drivers to travel further.

Hi, this unit on their website says that it requires bottled hydrogen to work. I have sent them an email about it if you could clarify the position, as we will never build a hydrogen economy without being able to make hydrogen cheaply instead of buying a product, as we will always have to buy fuel, as this is a form of control. If we could make our own fuel, heat our own homes, and be off grid totally, growing your own food, what happends next…

The new Horizon HydroFill is such a great green gadget. Letting homeowners and small businesses generate hydrogen at home and work with water and electricity to power their USB devices is a small step toward global green technology.
