Digital News Report- The Gateway Post Office in San Francisco will be hosting a Passport Fair on Wednesday in an effort to prepare American’s for spring and summer travel.  Passport clerks will be available to help residents apply for new passport books or passport cards.

March 28th has been declared “Passport Day in the U.S.A” and many post offices across the nation will have extended hours to help travelers prepare.   Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card is available at their website. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.

There are several changes for U.S. citizens planning to travel abroad.  The most notable will occur on June 1st when everyone will be required to have a passport to visit Canada or Mexico.  It usually takes 30 days to obtain a passport, which makes the deadline for foreign summer travel closer than you might think.  For an extra $60, the process can be sped up and you can have your passport in two to three weeks.
