Digital News Report- The scandal surrounding Illinois Gov. Blagojevich’s attempted sale of President-elect Obama’s soon to be vacant senate seat has shifted focus today to the Governor’s wife. One of the tapes that the FBI has recorded seems to have captured her saying, “hold up that f***ing Cubs s***. F*** them,” as her husband discussed withholding state funds from the Chicago Tribune if they refused to fire certain employees.
She has participated in many awareness campaigns for breast cancer, heart disease and food allergies as the first lady of Illinois. She has also supported the State Beautification project and helped with childhood healthcare and literacy programs. However, her connection to the scandal surrounding her husband and real estate dealings with the controversial businessman Tony Rezko may alter her philanthropic public image.
Patricia Blagojevich is the daughter of Richard Mell, a long time member of the Chicago City Council. Her sister, Deb Mell, is a lesbian who won a seat in the House of Representatives during the last election cycle. She is set to take office in January. She is best known for her arrest in 2004 when she was detained for protesting her inability to get a marriage license from the Cook County clerk’s office.
